AXIS Enrich Fall 2024

 

AXIS Enrich is an after-school program that broadens student experiences. These are hand-picked external organizations that come in to provide classes in science, movement, music, art, martial arts and more. The Enrich classes that are offered at AXIS for the 2023-24 school year are listed below.

 

Student sign-up and payment for classes are through the vendor and all classes take place onsite at AXIS International Academy.**

 
Monday - Friday classes run 3:15-4:15pm unless otherwise stated (See Schedule below)
 
Schedule of Enrich classes:
FALL: Session 1: September 3rd - December 13th (14 Weeks)
WINTER: Session 2: January 7 - March 14 (10 Weeks)
SPRING: Session 3: March 25 - May 16 (8 Weeks)
 
Pickup from Enrich:
Please park in the WEST lot and walk to pick up your student(s) from Enrich at the WEST doors by the lawn.  Students will need to be released from their Enrich teacher by an approved pickup person.  Any students remaining 10 minutes after class ends will be checked into Explorer Care by their Enrich teacher and families will be charged accordingly.  
 
**In order to participate in Enrich programming, a waiver must be completed for each student.  Complete the electronic waiver here.

PreK: Tuesdays 3:15pm-4:00pm
K-2nd Grade: Thursdays 3:15pm-4:15pm
The class: At Amazing Athletes, we use sports as a catalyst to empower kids to discover their inner strength and athletic abilities. Kids learn the skills of 10 different sports in a fun, non-competitive and educational environment. They will explore football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, golf, lacrosse, hockey, baseball and track & field in addition to an introduction to muscle terminology and nutrition.
About the organization: Coach Logan has over 15 years experience coaching developmental, recreation and competitive sports.  She owned the Amazing Athletes program, running classes across Colorado from 2009-2021, and she and her husband were thrilled to be asked to return this fall!  She grew up a competitive swimmer and tennis player, finished top 10 in her age group in the Breckenridge Spartan Beast and was part of a national champion women's bowling team. 
 
Wednesdays 3:15-4:15pm
The class: Have fun in this class while learning to work with clay. If you've taken clay with us before, be assured all of our projects will be new! We'll expand on the basics of a pinch pot, making coils, and rolling slabs. I will be taking the projects to my studio to be kiln-fired, then returning them the following week.
About the organization: Janna Flores has owned Artisan You, a paint-your-own-pottery studio in Loveland for 12 years. Her favorite material to work with is clay. She sells her hand-built pottery at local shows. Madeline Rich has been a staff member at Artisan You for just under 1 year. She moved to Colorado from New Jersey. She loves working with kids.
 
Fridays 3:15-4:15pm
The class: Our chess instructors teach lesson plans each week about Openings, Middle Games and Endgames. Players will learn how to think ahead, play smart and beat their parents at chess! In Chess Club, we work to create an environment where the kids enjoy learning and playing chess, and incorporating fun activities, prizes and time for 1 on 1 chess. Our Chess Club works for all skill levels.
About the organization: Chessmates began in Fort Collins Colorado in 2008 and now teaches over 1000 students annually. As a Colorado Chess Club, Chessmates provides camps, tournaments, private lessons, chess clubs, and online chess instruction in Fort Collins Colorado.
 
Monday-Friday 3:00-6:00pm
Begins August 19th
The class: Each day, CSU picks up kids from several schools and bring them to CSU.  Campers are dismissed at 6pm from the CSU campus.  Students will be transported by van from AXIS to CSU. Drop-off attendance is also encouraged
About the program: The program runs on the PSD calendar, starting at school dismissal time until 6pm M-F when school is in session.  They use the facilities in and around the Moby complex, and have the same outstanding equipment and facilities from their camp program.  The counselors are many of the same people who provided your kiddos with their summer camp experience.  CSU provides healthy snacks, active programming, and a lot of fun.
 
Tuesdays 3:15-4:15pm (K-6)
The class: Our kid’s yoga classes include songs, games, poses, stories, and more. Classes are designed for students of all ability levels and focus on breathing, body awareness, strength, relaxation, and FUN. Movement and mindfulness in a non-competitive, fun atmosphere is what this class is all about. Come play YOGA!
About the organization: We are a local business that provides yoga classes to kids, families, and adults. The teachers are moms, yoga teachers, and/or school teachers who know KIDS AND YOGA. We strive to provide wellness skills so our students can manage lifes ups and downs all while moving ,breathing, and strengthening.
 
Thursdays 3:15-4:15pm
The class: Tailored specifically for young minds, this workshop offers a nurturing environment where children can explore the benefits of mindfulness and mindful movement in a fun and accessible way. Our class includes: An Introduction to Meditation; Breathing Buddies; Mindful Movement Skills; Imaginative Visualization, Drawing Emotions, and Do-Overs. The benefits are: Improved Focus; Emotional Regulation; Enhanced Creativity and Better Sleep. Each child will receive a small "Mindful Kit" to take home, including a Resilience Reminder, a coloring sheets, and one of Michelle's Meditation & SEL Books.
About the organization: Michelle has taught meditation and movement awareness for 25+ years in schools, spas and universities. At Golden Child Meditation, we help children navigate their emotions and find a clear, calm place to be within. Our effective methods and resources help children be — and stay — in balance.
 
Mondays & Wednesdays 3:15-4:15pm
The class: Students can expect to learn Olympic-style Taekwondo also known as World Federation Taekwondo. Our classes look different each day, so one day you can expect an obstacle course or balancing games and the next day we may be sparring or practicing kicking and punching. We want students to not only learn the Taekwondo curriculum but to have fun while doing it. We have students taking part for a variety reasons, some are focused on getting their black belt, or competing in tournaments, while others just want to have a fun time with their friends. We adapt to meet the different needs of each child to help them reach their goals.
About the organization: Our Mission is to provide Taekwondo instruction allowing students to develop leadership and teamwork skills using equitable practices. Co-Owner and Instructor Jenny (she/hers) and Jiri (he/him) have been teaching this afterschool program since 2018. Instructor Jiri will be testing for his first-dan black belt and Instructor Jenny for her third-dan black belt this month. Instructor Paige (she/hers) has been with us since August 2022 and is a third-dan black belt. Instructor Madda (she/hers) has been with us since January 2023 and is a first-dan black belt and trains in ITF - a more traditional style of taekwondo.

K-2nd Grade: Fridays 3:15pm-4:15pm
The class: Our youth soccer program brings a fun, positive, and exciting soccer classes directly to the children at their school. Our goal is to create a lasting impact through engaging activities, skill development, and a strong sense of teamwork. Our Preschool sessions consist of a 45 minute instructional class each week, and our K- 2nd sessions will consist of 40 minutes of instructional time followed by 20 minutes of gameplay (3v3 or 4v4).
About the organization: Discover the unique experience at Mighty Kicks and elevate your child's soccer journey! At Mighty Kicks, we focus on more than just teaching soccer skills. We're dedicated to building confidence, fostering teamwork, and instilling a lifelong love for the game. Our enthusiastic coaches provide a supportive and encouraging atmosphere where every child can flourish, no matter their skill level. Join us and see your child thrive both on and off the field!
K-2nd grade soccer: Cleats and shin guards required.
Preschool: 45 minute classes, ending at 4:00pm.  Cleats & shin guards not required.  
 
Wednesdays 3:15-4:15pm
The class: Embark on a magical journey with "Once Upon a Time," a 14-week afterschool theater class for grades 3-5, where young actors bring fairy tales to life through imaginative play and creative storytelling. Each week, students will explore classic and modern tales while learning acting fundamentals and stage presence. The program fosters creativity, teamwork, and self-expression, culminating in a final performance on the last day of class. Join us to watch your child's imagination soar to new heights!
About the organization: Playcrafter Kids is a performing arts organization serving young performers ages 2-12 in Fort Collins and the surrounding area. Our aim is to offer nurturing and dynamic programs where children can unleash their creativity, build essential skills, and cultivate a lifelong love for learning and the creative arts. Teacher Nicole is a performing arts educator and theatrical performer in our community. She teaches foundational skills that can continue to be developed over the life of her students. She's eager to work with the AXIS community.
 
Fridays 3:15-4:15pm
The class: Let your imagination run wild with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects and use special pieces to create your own unique designs! Projects are rotated seasonally to ensure that both new and returning students can explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system.
About the organization: Play-Well is thrilled to offer the enchanting world of LEGO STEM education to students of all backgrounds. Our programs are a continuous adventure, featuring expert instructors, dynamic curricula, and millions of LEGO pieces. At AXIS, Dorian will be your instructor. With her extensive experience and deep passion for teaching, she's sure to make every session unforgettable.
 
Tuesdays 3:15-4:15pm
The class (two units):
SCIENCE SAMPLER: Experience a sampling of different science themes each week! Become an inventor and build your own circuit to send messages in Morse Code, become a geologist and go gemstone mining, and become a chemist as you create oozy glowing slime and other crazy chemistry concoctions!
SLIME TIME: Calling all slimeologists! Prepare to get elbow deep in gooey fun as we enter the world of polymer chemistry and make different slime creations each week. You'll make amazing color changing slime, textured slime with growing orbs, and chalkboard slime that you can draw on!
About the organization: Science Matters in America is a private organization dedicated to increasing science literacy among girls and boys ages five through fourteen. We strive to give every student a meaningful hands-on science experience throughout their academic careers. Since 1999, Science Matters has been providing quality science enrichment programming. Our curriculum is standards-based and help to develop the skills of a scientist. Students love the projects and activities and have fun while learning, but it's our teachers that make the biggest difference. Hand selected, fingerprint background checked, and trained in the "Science Matters Way," the instructors combine fun and science inquiry. That's how our slogan "Where Science and Fun are One" came to be!
 
Mondays 3:15-4:00pm
The class: WEBBY Dance Company is offering Ballet/Creative Dance/Tumbling Combo class located at Axis Elementary. Our Fun Themed classes begin with warm-up and stretching exercises. Children are taught creative movement and dance techniques: they are also introduced to beginning ballet skills.
Students will dance to their favorite songs while using fun props. This class will end each week  with fun obstacle courses which will include front rolls, back rolls, handstands, bridges, cartwheels etc. to improve your child's gross motor skill development. 
 
WEBBY Dance Company for K-2:
Tuesdays 3:15-4:15pm
The class: WEBBY Dance Company is now offering a Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Dance classes located at Axis International. Class includes Jazz, Hip Hop, & Ballet. Dancers will work on weekly strengthening exercises, retaining choreography, across the floor and energetic dance combinations. 
About the organization: Vel was born to dance, inspire, motivate and make everything more fun! Energetic, enthusiastic and passionate about what she does, she began a career in dance/cheer and fitness in California at the age of 15. She later became a Dance and Cheer franchise owner for WEBBY Dance Company, which gained her a great deal of experience. She and her family relocated to Fort Collins in 2009. 
Vel also has a heart for the Special Needs Community as she has been the Panther Coach in Fort Collins the last 13 years. She is looking forward to sharing the love of dance and cheer with the AXIS Community.

The K-2nd grade class: Does your little one love to doodle? Turn those doodles into delightful works of art with Young Rembrandts! Our vibrant drawing classes are packed with excitement and colorful masterpieces. Watch as your child masters the art of drawing with our adorable ladybug and whimsical gumball machine illustrations. But that's just the beginning! They'll also create everything from cheerful clown puppets to a friendly Frankenstein, not to mention irresistible candy bags and beautiful fall scenes. The 3rd-6th grade class: Is your home overflowing with your child's creative masterpieces? It's time to take their artistic talent to the next level with Young Rembrandts drawing classes! About the organization: Young Rembrandts teaches drawing, the fundamental skill of all visual arts to children aged 3 ½ to 12. Our unique, proven method and step-by-step curriculum foster a wealth of skills such as fine motor skills, handwriting readiness and attention to detail. Children taught using our method develop increased patience, discipline and focus as well as a host of artistic skills such as art vocabulary and history, drawing and art skills, and expanded creativity, imagination and confidence.
